  Average amount of homework for high school students in the US fell by more than 5 percent between 2000 and 2012, according to a report from the non-profit organization Future Left. Over the same period, the amount of overall homework jumped by about a third.

  
  

  “It may seem like a different age, but it’s not, said Rick Caplan, director of research for Future left and the author of the report. “High school students (in the U.S.) are increasingly trying to think creatively while solving actual problems that have consequences. That’s hard work for a high school student.

  
  

  The report, which was produced by Pew Study Center and Institute for Science and International Education, examined more than 4,000 high school studies of students in grades 8-12 from the fall of 2000 to the spring of 2012. The results showed that 83 percent of high school seniors completed a homework assignment for their class or less (compared to 60 percent in the general public) from 2000 to 2012.

  
  

  According to the report, the percentage of total homework done in the elementary school (8-12) was still a more than 30 percent lower than the Pew study as of 2012, even though testing levels for homework were lower at each age level.

  
  

  "As kids get older, they are likely to spend more time on homework, to not spend as much time learning and to less likely to need college credit for completing homework," said Caplan.

  
  

  The study found that students at all ages spent 21 percent less time with homework than students at the same age level in the PEW study, but according to Caplan “the opposite is true if we take the survey at middle school or high school — 25 percent less.

  
  

  Pew Studies Center Director Tom Jennings said, “It’s clear from the data that US students are worried about doing homework.

  
  

  “Difficulties with homemade homework may derail the creativity of Americans and harm their chances for a good education," he said. “British and European populations have grown up developing literacy, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. They also have less homework as a child, and this reflects a multicultural society that has a lot more than one form of education available.

A study published in 2006 shows that, on average, about 21.3% of children are victims of “intentional or criminal violence” by their parents. If only one percent of kids are lucky enough to be victims, that could mean teen suicides are actually lower than we think.

Omri Ben Yehoshua, an expert at the World Bank’s Middle East and North Africa program, has found that there are a lot of unproductive resources in the developing world and the US education system is very high in quality. Rather than investing in “more,” our foreign policy should be investing instead in “higher” quality education. Expanding opportunities of learning over the long term is not just a valid recommendation, but is actually the only solution to turning our children into better citizens.

  
  

  With the United Nations’ goal of increasing inequality in the world’s most populous nation by one percentage point by 2030, our education system should be pushing students to tackle the issue, not keeping them in school after midterms. Educational debt is always a threat to economic growth, but this is one more reason to consider educating our children as well as the next generations.

  Try using homework helpfully and don't make it something that everyone is passionate about. Some teachers think that a student who has been bored by homework can be hard to train, and if something you're passionary about is tied up, it'll likely get muddled along as well.

  
  

  It's not surprising, then, that a great deal of attention is being paid to homework. It's how many worksheets can we get out of a year's worth of work? It's why, if the ensemble consists of a teacher and a student, it almost always includes two sets of questions or assignments: Where are the students and what does it take to get them to do what they're supposed to be doing?

  
  

  Remember when the minimalist schools were focusing less on classroom materials and more on methods of encouraging participation and deeper thinking?   It is perfectly reasonable to force the student to pay the lesson to the school that has the voucher available for them. The fact that the second subject is going to some college college college rather than the public school in the country is irrelevant. It is a silly idea that this system, in which if a student is “morally correct” and wants to study something, they can have the courses paid for and what it really costs is a single time use ticket for a $50 book. The concept of the varsity system has been exposed as a loophole for inflating the cost of American education. Proponents have argued that it makes no sense to provide a private option for students to study to get a chance to go to college.
